Where Clay Meets Cuisine
Chef Nicola of Six for Supper and Katie Thrash bring a multisensory “Clay Supper Club” to Bernal Heights.
Chef Nicola is the founder of Six for Supper, a San Francisco-based culinary venture born from a desire to replace transactional networking with genuine human connection. After a 25-year career in the corporate world across cities like London, New York, and Los Angeles, she pivoted during the pandemic to pursue her lifelong passion for cooking and community.
The Founder and Her Philosophy
Raised in Hong Kong and London, Nicola’s cooking reflects a life shaped by global flavors. Her father, a devoted food lover, taught her that sharing a meal is the most direct way to understand the world. This upbringing created a culinary style she describes as “elegant but unfussy,” blending high-quality seasonal ingredients with unexpected international touches.
Her philosophy centers on the “simple joy” of a shared table. Whether through her ticketed supper clubs, private in-home dining, or hands-on cooking classes, Nicola aims to create “cozy, convivial gatherings” where conversation flows naturally. Her events are intentionally small, ensuring everyone is part of a single, meaningful dialogue.
A Fusion of Food and Art: The Speckle Studio Collaboration
In late March, Nicola is bringing her expertise to a first-of-its-kind event at Speckle Studio in Bernal Heights. This “Clay Supper Club” is a collaboration between Nicola, studio owner Holly Coley, and ceramic artist Katie Thrash. The evening is designed as a multisensory experience where art and food are inseparable.
The Concept: Guests will begin the evening by creating a clay project with Katie Thrash. This hands-on artistic session is followed by a four-course meal served directly on Katie’s handmade pottery.
The Menu Synergy: Nicola worked closely with Katie and Holly to ensure the menu complemented the ceramics’ aesthetic. This collaboration involved a dedicated photoshoot to test how the color palettes and textures of her dishes—such as her beetroot-cured gravlax with lime leaf oil—visually harmonize with the glazes and forms of the ceramic vessels.
Unique Ingredients: Guests can expect to be introduced to unique flavors that mirror the craftsmanship of the art, including miso caramel that Nicola loves to make to surprise and delight her diners.
This inaugural event serves as a trial for a new recurring series at Speckle Studio. By moving beyond the traditional restaurant setting, Nicola continues to prove that the dinner table is the ultimate space for curiosity, connection, and the celebration of craftsmanship.
Ceramic Supper Club: Six for Supper & Katie Thrash

Speckle Studio is thrilled to announce the menu and visiting artists for its inaugural Ceramic Supper Club on Saturday, March 21st, from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. Designed for guests ages 18 and older, this unique event features a collaboration between Chef Nicola of Six for Supper and ceramic artist Katie Thrash.
The evening is structured around two distinct acts of making. To begin, Katie Thrash will lead a nerikomi workshop, guiding participants as they hand-build a beautiful ring bowl. Following the workshop, guests will gather around the table to enjoy a curated four-course meal prepared and served by Chef Nicola.
Nicola’s vision for this collaboration centers on the transition from tactile creation to communal connection. As a special highlight, Katie Thrash has thoughtfully handcrafted all the dinnerware specifically for this event, ensuring every detail of the night is a celebration of artistry.
Speckle Studio invites guests to join this immersive experience, where food, clay, and community come together for a night to savor.
