Preserving Tradition and Flavors: A Journey with Tacos Los Altos on Cortland Avenue
Can you tell us a little bit about the history of Tacos Los Altos and how it came to be located on Cortland Avenue?Ā
Our dad initially started his business by doing onsite catering for family and friends all around the Bay Area. We used to always tell him he should get a ālittle storeā to sell his food. February 2013 he decided to make that a reality and opened Taco Los Altos.
What is it like taking over the Family business?
Itās something that we grew up doing, we always helped our parents in the restaurant so itās natural for us to want to continue, thereās challenges of course but we enjoy it.
What sets Tacos Los Altos apart from other taco places in the area?Ā
Definitely our vegetarian options set us apart from most other Mexican restaurants. We make sure our vegetarian options are filling and flavorful and we can tell our customers appreciate that!
How do you ensure the quality and authenticity of your food?Ā
Itās very important for us to keep our meals as authentic as possible by brining flavors from our home town in TepatitlĆ”n,Jalisco. We also take inspiration for our recipes from our cooks who have come from different states in Mexico. (If you havenāt yet you need to try Lorenaās Cochinita Pibil. A traditional dish from YucatĆ”n)
What are some of your most popular menu items, and why do you think they are so popular?Ā
Our most popular item is our nachos, the thickness of our chips makes for a great bite even until the last bite! Some of our other popular items are Mole Poblano, Enchiladas Los Altos & Quesabirria.
Tell us about Taco Tuesdays.
We started Taco Tuesday because we wanted to attract more customers. Over the past couple years we have remodeled and added items to our menu so we want to attract new people.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting their own business?
Starting a business takes a lot of your time and dedication. But if youāre passionate about what you do, it is all worth it.
What do like to do outside the restaurant?
Spending time with family
How do you stay connected with the local community, and what role do you see Tacos Los Altos playing in the neighborhood?Ā
We have build special relationships with our neighbors here on Cortland. Taco Los Altos is where you can dine and find your neighbors or classmates. We have seen the neighborhood kids grow up, this neighborhood is like family.
What are your plans for the future of Tacos Los Altos, and how do you see the business evolving over time?Ā
We plan on sticking to our one location on Cortland and definitely want to focus more on catering for company events, birthday parties, etc.

I am so excited to hear this news! Thank you for the story. š
They’ve got the best grilled vegetable tacos, among all the other delights. My family is so happy they survived during these past rough years for restaurants.
