Introduction to Urban Beekeeping

Saturday, March 14th, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm

This IN-PERSON WORKSHOP will be hosted at Alemany Farm.

Instructor: Geof Peridot Worcester from the SF Beekeepers Association

Learn the basics of beekeeping, colony health, and urban honey production. This two-hour class will be led by a member of the San Francisco Beekeeping Association and will cover the honey bee life cycle, how to identify and treat pests and diseases, and an introduction to working safely with bees. Also, learn how bees work together to make honey, pollinate flowers, and maintain colony nutrition. The class will conclude with a guided tasting of honey from our local plants.

This will be a lecture-style class with Q&A. Please bring your questions. In this class, we will not have the opportunity to open an active hive.

Friends of Alemany Farm is a group that manages the horticulture, volunteer, and educational programs at Alemany Farm, a 3.5-acre organic farm ecosystem in southeast San Francisco. The farm sits on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone peoples, who are the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula and the original stewards of this land.
