A Week of Connection in Bernal Heights

There is a unique energy in Bernal Heights that thrives on connection, whether through a shared hobby, a commitment to our neighborhood’s natural beauty, or the simple joy of supporting local businesses. This week, our neighborhood calendar is a perfect reflection of that spirit, offering a blend of culture, civic engagement, and culinary exploration.

Cultivating Community

Our strength as a neighborhood is rooted in how we take care of one another and our shared spaces. This week, we have opportunities to come together for the common good:

Civic Engagement: Supervisor Jackie Fielder will be hosting a community meeting on July 9 from 5:30 PM to 6:45 PM, providing a space for neighbors to discuss local issues.

Stewardship: On July 11, the community will gather from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM for One City Day to help clean up the Tompkins Stairway Garden, a vital project for our local green space infrastructure.

A Taste of Local Culture

Whether you are interested in exploring complex spirits or enjoying a unique neighborhood pop-up, this week’s lineup celebrates craft and tradition:

Agave & Spirits: We kick off the week with a tasting of La Venenosa Raicilla and La Higuera Sotol on July 7 (5:00 PM – 8:00 PM). Later in the week, on July 10, the SF Tequila Shop will feature a tasting of Cambio Tequila from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Finally, closing out the weekend, there will be a Sunday tasting of Tapatío Tequila from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.

Wine Discoveries: On July 8, join fellow enthusiasts for a tasting of wines from Bodegas F. Rubio in Valle de Guadalupe, running from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Swedish Delights: The beloved Hej Hej pop-up returns to 420 Cortland from July 9 through July 13, bringing Swedish candy and their famous hot dogs, including a new strawberry relish feature, back to the heart of our community.

Connecting Through Hobbies

Beyond the events and tastings, our neighborhood remains a hub for shared interests:

Chess & Strategy: Barebottle Brewery continues its tradition of hosting weekly Chess Nights on July 6 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, welcoming players of all skill levels.

Arts & Pets: Derek Lynch’s exhibition, Cumulative Perspectives, opens on July 9 and runs through August 15. Additionally, pet owners can connect during the puppy socials at Bernal Beast on July 11 from 11:45 AM to 12:30 PM.

This week is a reminder that the heart of Bernal Heights is not just in our homes, but in the streets, gardens, and shops where we meet. We hope to see you out and about, engaging with neighbors and enjoying everything our wonderful community has to offer.
