San Francisco September Event Calendar
As we head into September, we are excited for the 21st Edition of Bernal Heights Outdoor Cinema.
- Bernal Heights Outdoor Cinema – Bernal Heights Outdoor Cinema presents free screenings of diverse, local filmmakers’ works in neighborhood parks, playgrounds, and other community-friendly spaces to increase the exposure and recognition of local artists and to heighten appreciation by neighborhood and citywide residents while bringing the community together. - San Francisco Jazz Festival – For 40 years, SFJAZZ has presented the San Francisco Jazz Festival in venues throughout the Bay Area. With the opening of the SFJAZZ Center in 2013, the festival is now concentrated in the Center and the surrounding neighborhood, offering over 30 shows. Sept 5, 2024 – May 25, 2025
- Opera in the Park 2024 – Music Director Eun Sun Kim leads the San Francisco Opera Orchestra in an afternoon of arias and ensembles performed by stars from San Francisco Opera’s 2024–25 Season. Sept 8, 2024
- 2024 Flower Piano: 12 Hidden Pianos in GG Park – In the final days of summer and for the ninth time since 2015, Flower Piano will once again transform San Francisco Botanical Garden into the city’s alfresco concert hall where everyone is invited to play and listen. Sept 13-22, 2024
- “Chuseok” Korean Harvest Festival 2024 – The Annual Chuseok Festival is the Bay Area’s largest public event celebrating, showcasing, and promoting Korean culture, cuisine, music, arts, and community. The festival will have delicious Korean food (both traditional and fusion), exciting live performances from local Korean cultural performance groups, traditional Korean games and activities, and more! - Chinatown Mid-Autumn Moon Festival – The 15th day of the eighth moon of the Chinese calendar is the autumn moon. San Francisco’s Autumn Moon Festival honors Family, Harvest, and Cultural Traditions with Lion Dancing, Food, Music, and Mooncakes! Sept 14-15, 2024
- Haight Ashbury Street Fair – the annual event has endured for over 40 years. During its existence, HASF has been awarded numerous “Certificates of Honor” from the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the California Senate & the Bay Guardian’s “Best of…” citations. Sept 15, 2024
- 43rd Annual Comedy Day – SF’s massive annual park comedy fest features 50+ comics for free. Sept 15, 2024
- A Taste of Greece – San Francisco’s original Greek Festival, “A Taste of Greece,” returns with aromas of freshly made Spanakopita, Moussaka, Gyros, and other Greek specialties filling the vibrant Mission district. Enjoy live Greek music, dancing, delectable treats, wine tasting, shopping, and a kids’ zone. The event is easily accessible via public transportation, and parking is available. Admission is free! We hope to see you celebrate Greek culture at San Francisco’s original Greek festival. Sept 20-22, 2024
- Open Studios – Open Studios is an annual event that features a series of art-related activities. It begins with ArtLaunch, a vibrant in-person kick-off celebration at the SFOS Exhibition in the SOMArts Cultural Center. This event sets the tone for the following four weekends when artists open their studios to the public. These artist-hosted studio events offer a unique opportunity for visitors to engage directly with the artists, explore their creative spaces, and immerse themselves in the art world. - How Weird Street Faire – How Weird is centered at Howard and 2nd Streets, or 37°47’12.4″ N, 122°23’53.7″ W. The faire is located in the SoMa district, the center of the technology industry for the city since the 1990s, and perhaps the world. How Weird attracts many of the area’s innovative technologists and internet pioneers, who profoundly affect the world with their ideas and digital tools. The area around the faire is also home to many art galleries and museums. How Weird attracts many types of artists and lovers of art and culture. The faire, the area, and the participants represent the convergence of art and technology, the fusion of creativity and possibilities. - 3rd Annual Chinatown Lion Dance Festival – Vibrant lion dance parades take place on Grant Ave. (between Sacramento and Jackson Sts.), bringing luck and cultural spectacle. Sept 21-22, 2024

- SF’s 3rd Annual Dance Day – Everybody dance now! Yerba Buena Gardens Festival and Rhythm & Motion present the 3rd annual YBG Dance Day, transforming the Gardens into an outdoor dance studio where participants can sample a variety of art forms’ traditions and styles with some of the Bay Area’s most talented teachers. Classes are one hour long, and genres include salsa, bachata, body percussion, rhythm & motion, soul line dance, contemporary dance, dancehall, and more. Whether you are new to dance or a seasoned professional, Yerba Buena Gardens Dance Day is open to everyone! Bring comfortable shoes, a water bottle, and your curiosity for movement.
