Instructor: Hannah Shulman
This is an IN-PERSON workshop.

Hannah Shulman is a program manager at The 11th Hour Project / Schmidt Family Foundation, where she oversees grant-making that enables access and opportunity for youth to thrive through nature. Previously, Hannah led community organizing, land use, and youth engagement work in the Bay Area. She holds a bachelorā€™s from Haverford College and studied at the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems at the University of California, Santa Cruz. In addition, she has over ten years of experience pruning fruit trees.

Suggested Donation: $25 per person; no one turned away for lack of funds. Our workshops are donation-based and support the farm. Please give at the suggested level or higher if you are able.

About Alemany Farms

Friends of Alemany Farm is a group that manages the horticulture, volunteer, and educational programs at Alemany Farm, a 3.5-acre organic farm ecosystem in southeast San Francisco. The farm sits on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone peoples, who are the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula and the original stewards of this land.

Our Mission

Friends of Alemany Farm grows food security and educates residents about how they can become their food producers. In addition, we strive to increase ecological knowledge and habitat value and to sow the seeds for economic and environmental justice. The food we grow is given away for free to neighbors, volunteers, The Free Farm Stand, and other groups.

We pursue four main goals:

  • They are fostering Environmental Education by introducing children and adults to the idea that local food production can be part of a healthy ecosystem and inspiring visitors to start their gardens at home.
  • We are boosting food securityĀ by providing organic, healthy food to community members.
  • Growing Leaders through the communal ethic of barn-raising encourages people to play an active role in decision-making.
  • We are promoting Ecological-Economic Development by using urban agriculture to develop job skills.
