ABOUT ENELALMA
“The soul bridges culture, connecting our indigenous and African-American heritage. Enelalma is a spirit borne of stolen soil, reclaimed with soul.”
As the first tequila export from Peña Blanca, Enelalma’s story is one of heritage on both sides of the border. They honor those who have nurtured this land for generations and the African-American resilience that built a spirit of its own.
Enelalma is an additive-free prestige sipping tequila crafted in the Los Altos region of Jalisco, Mexico, that honors the rich legacy, heritage, and shared experience of indigenous and African-American cultures. Its founder, Melanie M. Shelby, is a charismatic Sacramento native who left a successful political career to share her passion with the world. She fondly refers to the tequila, launched in January 2024, as her “love letter to tequila in a bottle.”
Enelalma means “in the soul.”
The soul is the foundation of our personality, will, moral compass, and emotions. It endures the physical to “see beyond.” Our tequila strives to epitomize this experience in every sip. From Melanie’s unwavering dedication and zest for life to master distiller Oscar Vazquez’s deep knowledge of the Los Altos agave, terroir, and climate, they infuse culture, legacy, and distinction into every drop of tequila inside the memorable Enelalma bottle.
The iconic label design symbolizes the bridge between cultures. The Blue Weber agave plant represents indigenous culture, while the magnolia (Mississippi state flower), purple iris (Tennessee), and golden poppy (California) signify Shelby’s family roots and legacy.
This elegant small-batch sipping tequila is additive-free. It is crafted with single-estate agave cooked in traditional brick ovens using deep-well water and proprietary yeast under the direction of Master Distiller Oscar Vazquez. This tequila represents the intersection of culture, history, and craftsmanship.
