Learn about pond ecology and support habitat restoration for the red-winged blackbird\, tule reeds\, and more. The pond workday will include a discussion of pond ecology\, the importance of water sources on organic farms\, management strategies\, and creating plant and animal diversity. Bring your hip waders or rain boots\, if you have them (a few will be provided)\, gloves\, snacks\, and join us in getting your hands wet! \nInstructor: Brett Stephens\nBrett Stephens is the owner/project manager of San Francisco Landscapes. He is a certified permaculture designer\, a Bay-Friendly professional\, an ARCSA-accredited professional\, and a long-time volunteer at Alemany Farm. \nFriends of Alemany Farm\nFriends of Alemany Farm promotes food security and educates local residents on how to become their own food producers. The organization strives to increase ecological knowledge and habitat value while sowing the seeds for economic and environmental justice. This two-hour class\, hosted by a member of the San Francisco Beekeeping Association\, will cover the honey bee life cycle\, how to identify and treat pests and diseases\, and an introduction to working with bees safely. Also learn how bees work together to make honey\, pollinate flowers\, and maintain colony nutrition. The class will conclude with a guided tasting of honey from our local plants. \nThis will be a lecture-style class with Q&A. Please bring your questions. Learn more about the importance (and fun!) of eating seasonally\, how to harvest seasonal crops\, and work through some basic cooking instructions (knife skills\, anyone?). Together\, we will cook a few dishes in our outdoor kitchen and enjoy them in lovely early fall. The menu will be Lebanese-inspired and vegetarian (vegan options available). \nPlease bring your own knife and cutting board. \nPlease note: Kids 15 years or older are welcome \nTamara Kahhale (she/her) is a former electrical engineer turned landworker who worked in the climate technology solutions space before realizing she wanted to approach the climate crisis through an agricultural and land-based lens. She has developed a deep passion for regenerative agriculture and soil health\, food justice and sovereignty\, climate education\, and community-driven practices. As the daughter of Lebanese immigrants\, she has a deep connection to food and believes that everyone has a right to eat culturally relevant food in a way that does not harm the planet. \nShe has one and a half years of professional kitchen experience\, both in the kitchen and in teaching\, and has been a hobby chef and baker throughout her adult life.
