DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Urban Beekeeping\nSaturday\, March 14th\, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm \nThis IN-PERSON WORKSHOP will be hosted at Alemany Farm. \nInstructor: Geof Peridot Worcester from the SF Beekeepers Association \nLearn the basics of beekeeping\, colony health\, and urban honey production. This two-hour class will be led by a member of the San Francisco Beekeeping Association and will cover the honey bee life cycle\, how to identify and treat pests and diseases\, and an introduction to working safely with bees. Also\, learn how bees work together to make honey\, pollinate flowers\, and maintain colony nutrition. The class will conclude with a guided tasting of honey from our local plants. \nThis will be a lecture-style class with Q&A. Please bring your questions. DESCRIPTION:We Can Pickle That!: Carrots and Sauerkraut\nSunday\, March 22\, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm\nAlemany Farm\nInstructor: Mei Ling Hui \nJoin us in the farm’s outdoor kitchen for this hands-on workshop\, where you’ll learn about the basics of pickle making\, both with vinegars and natural fermentation\, and tips you need to know to make sure your pickles are safe\, crunchy\, and delicious. You’ll make your own jar of carrot pickles and sauerkraut to take home and ferment. \nPlease bring a cutting board and a knife. This workshop will be held in the outdoor kitchen. Please wear layers and sun protection. \nMei Ling Hui leads SF RPD’s community garden and urban farm programming\, and has been volunteering as a Master Food Preserver since 2014. She has taught workshops all over the Bay Area\, including at the San Mateo County Fair and Maker Faire.
