SUMMARY:Vibrant Earth – Claire Lau: Inclusions Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Vibrant Earth – Claire Lau\nThursday\, May 14\, 2026 – Sunday\, June 14\, 2026 \nOpening Reception: May 16\, 5–7 PM \nArtist Talk: May 31\, 4 PM \nFor this exhibition\, Claire Lau intentionally set out to chase the ephemeral beauty of California’s spring. From San Ramon to Pescadero\, from Point Reyes to the Carrizo Plain National Monument\, her goal is to relish the present and capture spring in a permanent form so that we can return to the joy of the experience. \nClaire Lau’s paintings celebrate nature\, light\, and color\, focusing on landscapes illuminated by the bright blue sky. She is drawn to undulating hills and mountains\, and to the way the Bay or the ocean interacts with the coastline. Her work often highlights vibrant plant life discovered within urban settings. During walks and hikes\, she identifies scenes that demand a return visit with her canvas\, easel\, and supplies. \nArtist Bio\nClaire was born in France\, grew up in Hong Kong\, and studied studio arts and music at Hampshire College\, MA. Since then\, she has lived in Hong Kong and Boston before settling in San Francisco in 2015. \nClaire has been painting in oils for 24 years and painting consistently en plein air for 15 years. She has exhibited her work in Hong Kong\, Massachusetts\, Chicago\, and the San Francisco Bay Area. \nShe is dedicated to plein air painting for two primary reasons. \nFirst\, painting outdoors helps her reconnect with the environment. In a tech-focused era in which people often become detached from nature and humanity\, she believes most people spend too much time in front of screens without paying attention to their surroundings. Setting up an easel outdoors allows her to spend days at a location\, experiencing fluctuating temperatures\, wind\, and the landscape’s sensory details. Through this process of observing changes in light\, air\, and flora\, she develops a profound personal connection with the site. \nSecondly\, Lau paints outdoors because she believes the human experience of a landscape cannot be replicated digitally. Photographs\, videos\, and 3D renderings often fail to capture the full experience or the true depth of colors seen by the naked eye. Her paintings act as a translation of her experience\, moving from her eyes to her brain and\, finally\, to her hands\, retelling a story. Responding to the shifting light and forms of nature\, she feels a sense of urgency to document these moments. \nWhen standing before her subject\, Lau searches for hidden hues and mixes a palette of saturated colors to convey the beauty of the world around her. \nClaire considers herself a global citizen and\, through her art and activism\, continuously strives to increase the care people have for nature\, society\, and each other. \nCalendar – Bernal Heights and Beyond\nBernal ConnectMike Doherty serves as Chief Experience Officer at Greening Projects\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming underutilized urban spaces into vibrant green areas

SUMMARY:Plant Swap @ Bernal Heights Library
DESCRIPTION:Plant Swap @ Bernal Heights Library\nBring your cuttings\, seedlings\, surplus harvest\, or plants that need a new home to swap with other gardeners. All types of plants welcome\, please label if possible. \nEnvironment & Nature\nFind out about the latest climate and environmental issues\, how to adopt greener practices\, and how to connect with the outdoors. \nGardening\nCultivate your green thumb. \nAbout Bernal Heights Branch Library\nThe Bernal Heights Branch Library at 500 Cortland Avenue has served as a cornerstone of the neighborhood for over 80 years\, with a history rooted in community advocacy and federal public works. \nEarly History and Construction\nBefore the current building existed\, the library operated out of smaller “deposit stations” starting in 1920 at 303 Cortland Avenue. As the neighborhood grew\, it moved to 324 Cortland in 1936\, but residents quickly lobbied for a dedicated\, permanent facility. \nWPA Origins: The current building was a product of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and was built on the site of the original Bernal School. \nArchitecture: Designed by Frederick H. Meyer\, a prominent San Francisco architect\, the library features Spanish Colonial-style architecture with warm wooden interiors. \nDedication: The branch was officially dedicated on October 21\, 1940\, becoming the 21st branch in the San Francisco Public Library system. \nThe Mural Controversy and Renovation\nOne of the most defining chapters in the library’s recent history was the debate surrounding its exterior murals. \nOriginal Murals: In 1982\, muralists Arch Williams and Carlos Alcala\, along with 25 local youth\, painted a series of vibrant murals on the library’s exterior. These works depicted the neighborhood’s social diversity and included a memorial to Arturo Duran\, a local youth killed in 1980. \n2010 Renovation: The library closed for a significant renovation in the late 2000s. During this time\, a contentious community debate erupted over whether to restore the original\, fading murals or return the building to its 1940 architectural appearance. \nConsensus and Reopening: After extensive mediation\, the community reached a compromise to replace the original paint with new artwork. The library reopened on January 30\, 2010\, featuring updated murals that incorporated key themes and images from the 1982 originals but utilized more durable materials. \nCommunity Legacy\nThe library remains a vital part of Bernal Heights’ identity\, often hosting meetings for groups like the Bernal History Project to preserve the area’s rich past. \nSan Francisco Family Friendly Calendar\nBernal ConnectMike Doherty serves as Chief Experience Officer at Greening Projects\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming underutilized urban spaces into vibrant green areas

Digest is dedicated to every person and resource involved in the highly curated experience of dining – those who farmed and harvested\, chopped and simmered\, selected the perfect plate; the seeds\, the water\, the earth. \nPainting the post-meal tablescape extends the invitation to mindfully absorb the experience – the company\, the conversation\, the sense memories – everything that made this meal one to savor long after the dishes have been washed. \nLaurie Caird is an artist based in Oakland. Her work explores our relationship to time\, celebrating the Japanese concept of ichigo ichie – cherishing the moment at hand\, as it will never be replicated – and themes of connection to nature\, humanity\, and joy through food. \nCalendar – Bernal Heights and Beyond\nBernal ConnectMike Doherty serves as Chief Experience Officer at Greening Projects\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming underutilized urban spaces into vibrant green areas

SUMMARY:Face-to-Face with the Filmmaker: Rodrigo Williams
DESCRIPTION:Face-to-Face with the Filmmaker: Rodrigo Williams\nJoin our friends from Bernal Heights Outdoor Cinema for a screening of Vibeland: Zodiac\, followed by a conversation with the Bernal filmmaker\, Rodrigo Williams. \nVIBELAND: ZODIAC\nVIBELAND: ZODIAC \nIn case you missed it\, see last season’s short sci-fi thriller presented at both Film Crawl on Mission and Film Crawl on Cortland and meet the filmmaker! The pilot for a San Francisco-based urban legend series follows a woman’s date night that turns into a cat-and-mouse game with the Zodiac killer in a surreal version of San Francisco. Bernal filmmaker Rodrigo Williams will appear for a conversation and Q&A. \nDirector\, Rodrigo (Roddy) Williams\nI grew up in San Francisco\, bouncing around all four corners of the City\, now settling in the center of the City\, where different neighborhoods and cultures collide with my wife and baby girl. The eclecticness of where we live is fitting\, as my upbringing was just as much a melting pot as the City I’m from. My father is black\, and my mother is from Havana\, Cuba. This version of San Francisco is the backdrop behind most of my creative passions. What started as friends making music in their parents’ basement evolved into pursuing the dream seriously\, making music videos\, comedy sketches\, and short films\, and now operating Vibeland Productions\, LLC. At the root of it\, it’s always been making dope art with the homies and the resources in our very own backyard. \nCalendar – Bernal Heights and Beyond\nBernal ConnectMike Doherty serves as Chief Experience Officer at Greening Projects\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming underutilized urban spaces into vibrant green areas

SUMMARY:Tasting with Enelalma Tequila and Legendary Master Distiller Oscar Vazquez!
DESCRIPTION:Tasting with Enelalma Tequila and Legendary Master Distiller Oscar Vazquez!\nAn unforgettable evening of prestige agave spirits is coming to San Francisco! \nJoin us at the San Francisco Tequila Shop this Friday\, May 29th\, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM for an exclusive tasting event with Enelalma Tequila and legendary Master Distiller Oscar Vazquez! \nEnelalma (“In the Soul”) is a world-class\, small-batch\, additive-free sipping tequila crafted from single-estate agave in the Highlands of Jalisco. This is your rare opportunity to meet the mastermind behind the liquid. Master Distiller Oscar Vazquez\, renowned for his precision and incredible legacy at iconic distilleries like El Pandillo\, will be in the shop to share his craft. \nCome taste the beautiful expressions of Enelalma\, learn about traditional brick-oven cooking\, and chat with Oscar himself about what makes this award-winning spirit so uniquely spectacular. \nWhere: SF Tequila Shop (801 Cortland Ave\, San Francisco\, CA) \nWhen: Friday\, May 29th | 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM \nAdmission: Free to attend! \nBring your fellow tequila enthusiasts \nOscar Vazquez\nOscar Vazquez Camarena is a highly respected figure in the craft agave world\, known for combining technical scientific precision with a deep respect for traditional methods. \n\nThe Chemist’s Approach: A chemist by trade\, Vazquez is celebrated for his “hands-on” and meticulous approach to distillation. He focuses heavily on the science of fermentation and the impact of mineral-rich deep well water on the final spirit.\nThe El Pandillo Legacy: Before launching his recent projects\, he spent over a decade working at the world-renowned Destilería El Pandillo (NOM 1579). There\, he worked alongside legendary master distiller Felipe Camarena on iconic brands such as G4\, Volans\, Terralta\, and ArteNOM 1579.\nCurrent Projects: He currently serves as the Master Distiller for Enelalma Tequila and Tequila Corrido. He also crafts the Manuscrito brand at the family-owned El Sabino Distillery (NOM 1643) in Jesús María\, Jalisco.\nDistillation Philosophy: Vazquez is a staunch advocate for the “clean” tequila movement.\n\n\nHis production signatures include:\n\n100% Additive-Free: He is a key member of the new generation of distillers dedicated to authenticity\, ensuring no glycerin\, syrups\, or artificial colors are used.\nHighland Terroir: He works exclusively with mature\, single-estate Blue Weber agave from the Los Altos (Highlands) region\, which provides the characteristic bright citrus and floral notes found in Enelalma.\nTraditional Methods: He uses traditional brick ovens for slow-cooking agave and copper pot stills for double distillation to preserve the plant’s complex flavors.\n\nThe Enelalma Connection\nIn collaboration with founder Melanie M. Shelby\, Vazquez formulated Enelalma’s profile as a “prestige sipping tequila.” His technical skill was instrumental in creating its specific flavor profile — noted for its complexity\, elegant mouthfeel\, and a finish that balances cooked agave with delicate floral aromas. \nExpert Tip: If you’re attending the tasting\, ask him about the “proprietary yeast” or the specific “deep well water” used at the Peña Blanca distillery — these are the technical nuances that Oscar is famous for perfecting. \nAbout SF Tequila Shop\nLocated in the heart of the Bernal Heights neighborhood\, SF Tequila Shop is a premier destination for enthusiasts of traditional agave spirits. The shop specializes in a curated selection of additive-free tequilas\, artisanal mezcals\, and rare spirits\, including raicilla and sotol. \nBeyond its extensive inventory\, the shop serves as a community hub for education and discovery. By hosting regular tasting events and partnering with independent producers\, SF Tequila Shop highlights the craftsmanship\, regional heritage\, and diverse flavor profiles of the world of agave. \nSpecialty: Additive-free tequila\, artisanal mezcal\, and rare agave spirits \nCalendar – Bernal Heights and Beyond\nSF Tequila Shop: Your Gateway to Mexico’s Finest Spirits Has Grown\nBernal ConnectMike Doherty serves as Chief Experience Officer at Greening Projects\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming underutilized urban spaces into vibrant green areas

SUMMARY:The Art of the Agave Afternoon: A Friday Tasting with Sal Divina Mezcal
DESCRIPTION:The Art of the Agave Afternoon: A Friday Tasting with Sal Divina Mezcal\nThere is a specific kind of magic that settles over Cortland Ave as the work week winds down. The coastal fog starts to play tag with the sun\, the neighborhood energy shifts toward the weekend\, and the ritual of the “Friday pour” begins. This Friday\, June 5\, we are leaning into that transition with a tasting event that celebrates both tradition and modern convenience. \nFrom 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM\, SF Tequila Shop welcomes Sal Divina for an afternoon dedicated to the soul of the agave plant. \nThe Spirit of Tradition\nMezcal is often called the “elixir of the gods\,” and for good reason. It carries the weight of history and the flavor of the earth. During our session\, we will be exploring the nuances of Sal Divina’s artisanal mezcal. This isn’t just about the smoke; it is about the terroir\, the patience of the harvest\, and the heritage of the distillers. Whether you are a seasoned collector or just starting to distinguish your Espadín from your Tobalá\, there is always something new to discover when these bottles are uncorked. \nModern Convenience\, Handcrafted Flavor\nWhile we love the ceremony of a neat pour\, we also recognize that summer in the city calls for something effortless. That is where Sal Divina’s RTD (Ready-to-Drink) cocktails come in. \nWe have all been there: you want a high-quality cocktail for a park hangout or a rooftop gathering\, but you don’t want to lug a shaker and three different bottles of bitters. These canned cocktails bridge that gap\, offering a perfectly balanced\, bar-quality experience that fits in a cooler. We’ll be cracking open a few varieties to show you exactly how they’ve captured the bright\, bold spirit of the Brnal Heights in a portable format. \nJoin Us on Cortland\nTastings are about more than just the liquid in the glass; they are about the conversation and the community. We invite you to drop by our space at 3101 Mission Street\, meet fellow agave enthusiasts\, and perhaps find the bottle (or the four-pack) that will define your weekend. \nEvent Summary\nWhere: SF Tequila Shop\, 801 Cortland Ave\nWhen: Friday\, June 5 | 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM\nThe Draw: Traditional Sal Divina Mezcal and their premium RTD cocktail lineup. \nStop by\, say hello\, and let’s toast to the weekend with something truly exceptional. Under the San Francisco sky\, there’s no better place to be. \nCalendar: Bernal Heights and Beyond\nBernal ConnectMike Doherty serves as Chief Experience Officer at Greening Projects\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming underutilized urban spaces into vibrant green areas
