SUMMARY:Alemany Farms: Winter Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Winter Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop\nMaster the Art of Dormant Pruning at Alemany Farm\nGardeners and fruit enthusiasts are invited to a hands-on morning in the orchard to demystify the “when\, why\, and how” of winter pruning. This workshop focuses on apple and plum trees\, teaching participants how to apply tree biology to encourage a bountiful\, healthy harvest. \nEvent Details\nDate: Saturday\, February 14\, 2026 \nTime: 10:00 am – 12:30 pm \nLocation: Alemany Farm \nInvestment: $35 suggested donation (No one turned away for lack of funds) \nWhat to Expect\nThe class blends theory with active field practice\, allowing attendees to move beyond observation and gain direct experience with the trees in the orchard. \nTree Biology 101: Understanding growth patterns and how trees respond to specific cuts. \nHealth & Productivity: Techniques to improve airflow\, sunlight penetration\, and fruit quality. \nThe Tool Kit: Guidance on choosing and maintaining the proper tools for the job. \nField Practice: Real-time pruning demonstrations followed by guided practice on the farm’s resident trees. \nNote: The curriculum focuses on deciduous fruit trees (apples and plums). While the instructors can discuss high-level citrus pruning basics\, citrus care is not the primary focus of this session. \nAbout the Instructors\nThe workshop is led by Abby Bell\, Alemany Farm Director\, and Vanessa Lieu\, Alemany Farm Manager. Together\, they bring over 15 years of combined experience in fruit tree care and orchard management. Both instructors share a deep commitment to the land and the community at Alemany Farm and look forward to sharing their expertise with workshop participants. \nCalendar – Bernal Heights and Beyond\nTompkins Stairway Garden Work Day\nBernal ConnectMike Doherty serves as Chief Experience Officer at Greening Projects\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming underutilized urban spaces into vibrant green areas

SUMMARY:Upper Esmeralda Garden Stairway- Community Workdays
DESCRIPTION:Upper Esmeralda Garden Stairway – Community Workdays\nThe Esmeralda Stairs are three block-long stairs that people can use to climb the west side of Bernal Hill. The bottom flight of stairs starts at Coleridge St.\, one block east of Mission St. The middle set of stairs goes from Prospect Ave. to Winfield St. The top section of stairs ends at Winfield and Esmeralda Streets. The Esmeralda Stairs are utilitarian\, but they’re also fun. Two slides are often called the Winfield Street Slides in the mid-section of the stairs. These slides are 40 feet long\, making for an exhilarating return trip after you reach the summit. \nThe Community Workdays are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. \nCalendar – Bernal Heights and Beyond\nBernal ConnectMike Doherty serves as Chief Experience Officer at Greening Projects\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming underutilized urban spaces into vibrant green areas
