Join them for the opening reception Saturday\, September 19th from 5-7 PM. Both Heidi and Jon will be in attendance\, so come say hello. They will also discuss their work and take questions during their Artist Talk on Thursday\, October 1\, at 6:30 PM. Both events are free\, and all are welcome. \nOn Sunday\, October 4\, Heidi will give a Sketchbook Workshop at the gallery. Space is limited. Scroll down for all the details. \n“We began collecting images together over 30 years ago\, roaming a strange and chaotic city in a car. We have never been far from each other\, cameras and sketchbooks in hand\, pointing and asking what or why is that. \nWe collect evidence of the strange. We like erosion\, absurdity\, rocks\, color\, texture\, industry\, fire – complex things that inspire stories in us and speak about time. We collect to study\, reflect\, and refract the changing world. To project forward and backward. \nWe make photographs and paintings to examine. We layer\, disassemble\, mirror\, and emphasize to construct something new. DESCRIPTION:DWIGHT ESCHLIMAN | Excerpts from the One Day Project\nMichelle Thomas Fine Art Gallery + Studio invites you to ONE DAY by photographer Dwight Eschliman\, on view now\, with an exhibition reception on Friday\, October 23\, 5–7 pm. \nEschliman’s latest project catalogs time.\nEach day consists of 24 hours. Each hour\, 60 minutes. Each minute\, 60 seconds. For each execution\, the artist photographs one static point in the sky every second for 24 consecutive hours. Each of these 86\,400 photographs then becomes a pixel in a larger composition. \nThe finished pieces are produced in sizes from 18 to 72 inches and include one-hour and 24-hour time spans. The project includes over 100 editioned pieces from four continents. \nEschliman’s depiction of each second of a day at once abstracts and reinterprets it\, offering a fresh perspective on place and the passage of time. \nThe ONE DAY project has appeared in the American Photography AP40 contest and the Communication Arts 2024 Interactive Annual. It will appear in American Photography AP42 later this year. Works from the collection are held in private and institutional collections\, most notably at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. \nOn view through November 2\, 2026.\nDwight Eschliman has been working out of his studio in San Francisco’s SOMA neighborhood for the last twenty years. His work is rooted in his fascination with the familiar. He dissects and explores ordinary objects in extraordinary detail\, his passion for close examination earning him a reputation as a master of capturing beauty hidden within the mundane.
